Happy Summer Game Fest Day!

Catch up on the week before we get a torrent of more news.

Look out, HBO’s The Last of Us: a new challenger is coming for the best video-game adaptation throne. Jokes aside, I’m very excited for this Like a Dragon adaptation. If you’ve never played those games, they’re weird, silly, dramatic, and delightful. And if the show can be even partially those things, we’re in for a treat.

The show will be a six-episode series covering the events from the first game, taking place in 1995 and 2005 in the timeline. Ryoma Takeuchi stars as Kazuma Kiryu, who also played Shinnosuke Tomari in Kamen Rider Drive. According to the reveal event, Takeuchi has put in blood, sweat, and tears into this role, bulking up to really earn the title of Dragon of Dojima.

Will this be the TV show of the year? Realistically, probably not; but if it’s as fun a romp as your average Like a Dragon game, I absolutely can’t wait to stream this in late October.

Happy Pride Month, everyone! Sirius Dice has partnered with Daniel Quasar (the creator of the Progress Pride Flag) and Wizards of the Coast to create an exclusive dice set.

Only 1,500 exist, each costing $40. For each sale, Sirius Dice will donate $30 to the Trevor Project (for a total of $45k, if they sell out). If you’re in the market for a new dice set, this one’s a good start.

Curious about why Wizards of the Coast is looking for a Principal AI Engineer? We got a statement from the Washington-based company right here.

Dire Decks, an indie roguelike deckbuilder, was stolen and released under a different name, all for free. Why? Terry Brash, who allegedly stole the game, hasn’t explained themself yet, but it’s an unfortunate situation that’s taking place on Steam.

Roll20 has acquired Demiplane, a tool that features a suite of character-creation and rule-reference tools. It’s similar to D&D Beyond, and it will only improve Roll20’s usability for those who play tabletop games virtually.

Mainframe Industries has announced that its upcoming social sandbox MMO Pax Dei is coming to Early Access (really) soon! Our site founder Rutledge Daugette is pretty excited for this one, and his intuition for these sorts of games is usually spot on. Don’t tell him I said that, though.

You may remember seeing Skydance’s Behemoth in last week’s PlayStation State of Play. We got our hands on an early build of the game, thanks to the developers, and it’s trying to push the limits of immersive storytelling in virtual reality.

Our previewer Erren van Duine also interviewed the developers, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s physics-based combat and accessibility options.

Talk about a blast from the past. Riven’s coming back, in a fully 3D remake. It’s the follow-up to Myst that released 27 years ago, and Erren also previewed this one (though not in VR).

It’s finally here! The last session of our introduction to Vecna: Eve of Ruin is live on YouTube, Spotify, and wherever you get your podcasts. We finally figure out what these Secrets are all about and get the full setup for the entire Level 10-20 adventure.

Let us know if you enjoyed it! We had fun playing, and more D&D podcasts aren’t necessarily off the table.
