Did Dragon Age Really "Go Woke"?
That's not a bad thing, either.
Dragon Age is back in a big way. It’s a real “return to form,” if you will. Lots of reviews are using that phrase, and some Gamers are calling it a cOnSPiRacY. You know the ones.
For all intents and purposes, The Veilguard seems like a wonderful RPG, adding onto an already stacked list of good RPGs this year, like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Metaphor: ReFantazio. All three got 9.5/10 scores from us, after all. Hell, it’s EA’s biggest single-player game launch on Steam.
But of course, the usual suspects are coming out of the woodworks, judging a game they haven’t even played for being too woke and for promoting DEI above all else. It’s all fueled by hate, with the sickening need to vilify fellow humans and take away their rights to simply exist.
Anyway, don’t forget to vote.
This loud minority is exhausting, and I’m not going to litigate all of their points because, frankly, it’s not worth arguing against stubborn, entrenched folks. Instead, I’m going to add The Veilguard to my queue, after I finish Metaphor and the Black Ops 6 campaign (which is experiencing the most successful franchise launch ever, by the way).
I just wanted to take this moment to have some transparency about what we do at TechRaptor. There’s no grand conspiracy for us to shove certain games down your throat. We get excited about games, and we want to share the good ones, whether they’re big or small. This review was the opinion of our writer and only our writer, no one else.
No one cut us a fat check, no matter how much we joke about it on the podcast. Why would publishers cut us a slice when CEOs barely leave crumbs for their own employees? If game journalists were so loaded with under-the-table review money, why are outlets laying people off and shutting down left and right? The answer to that, at least in part, lies with Google.
So we sent our founder and CEO, Rutledge Daugette, to report live from the field. This one is, admittedly, a lot more “insider baseball” than our usual coverage at TechRaptor.
But if you want to see how things work behind the scenes, this 4,800-word report will give you lots of good insights into how Google Search has likely harmed some of your favorite games media sites.

Welcome to the Weird Nintendo Corner of the Newsletter
Nintendo launched its own music-streaming app, full of tunes from all your favorite Nintendo games. You might have noticed that most Nintendo soundtracks aren’t really on Spotify, but now, there’s a new app for you. I swear though, if it doesn’t have “Fodlan Winds” from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, is it even worth the couple megabytes down?
Halloween might have been yesterday, but that shouldn’t stop you from getting your eerie vibes on (with some discount candy). Shadow Man and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil dropped yesterday on Nintendo’s ever growing list of N64 games on the Switch.
If you plan on playing Pocket Camp for the long term, mark your calendars for next month. (That’s right, it’s November today. What a year, huh?)
Cheating can be a huge problem in online games, and it often ruins the fun for everyone except the loser who doesn’t play fair. Anti-cheat is a good solution, and there’s many (occasionally invasive) ways to do it. But now, Valve is requiring devs to disclose how its anti-cheat measures are run in their games.
That’s good news for all multiplayer gamers except Apex Legends fans—it’s nothing personal, it’s just that you can’t play Apex on Steam Deck anymore. Or Linux.
Big Industry News
This manifesto includes a call for a four-day work week, an end to the gender pay gap, and more inclusive hiring processes. How could anyone be against that?
Our writer Tyler Chancey recently finished Silent Hill 2, and it really hit him just how much the remake revitalized his love of the original. It’s not a 1:1 remake, but that’s what makes it better. You can read more about it in his feature here.
