Here's Another Reason to Play Hades II
It's only getting bigger and better.
2025’s game of the year just got a huge update. The Olympic Update brings a whole new region, a new weapon, new boons, and more to the game. Supergiant is already hard at work on the next major update, but don’t expect it until some time early next year.
Deep-sea crafting-survival fans rejoice, because Subnautica is getting a new entry next year. It’ll also come with a co-op mode for up to four players—you know, so you can swim away from eldritch leviathans with your friends instead of alone.
Dropout Announces Dimension 20 Live West Coast Tour, Bringing the Actual Play to More Live Audiences
We’ve got a lot of folks here at TechRaptor who are big fans of Dropout TV—our editor Andrew Stretch has even interviewed quite a few folks on the team, including Brennan Lee Mulligan himself. If you live in or near Seattle, LA, or Las Vegas, you’ll want to jump on these tickets fast before they sell out (if they haven’t already).
This cannabis startup pioneered “rapid onset” gummies
Most people prefer to smoke cannabis but that isn’t an option if you’re at work or in public.
That’s why we were so excited when we found out about Mood’s new Rapid Onset THC Gummies. They can take effect in as little as 5 minutes without the need for a lighter, lingering smells or any coughing.
Nobody will ever know you’re enjoying some THC.
We recommend you try them out because they offer a 100% money-back guarantee. And for a limited time, you can receive 20% off with code FIRST20.
Amid a newly announced wave of layoffs, Riot co-founder Marc Merrill also said that the League team will “eventually be even larger than it is today.” Well, that’s one way to improve morale.
In other layoff news, Don’t Nod announced that after a weak financial year, up to 69 employees’ jobs could be at risk. Not nice. French union STJV has called for employees to strike in response.
To add some more bad vibes to the bonfire, Surgent Studio, the team behind Tales of Kenzera: Zau, is also on notice “for redundancy,” which could mean more layoffs are on the way.
If you’ve scrolled through Reddit or Twitter or any other social media this week, you’ve probably heard some wild stories about Tyhplosion. This news story is why. If you ask me, the headline should’ve been “Game Freak Leak Confirms It Lives Up to Its Name.”
This Week in Sales Numbers
Astro Bot was a surprise hit for us this year, and Team Asobi just added a speedrun stage and 10 new Bots for you to save in the game. Plus, we’ll be getting a new speedrun level every week, with the next two already detailed in our news story.
If you’ve played Astro Bot, you’ll have undoubtedly noticed the music in the game, which includes loving recreations of iconic PlayStation game soundtracks. In fact, they’re so iconic that Sony announced a global concert tour featuring dazzling visuals and live music from games like The Last of Us, God of War, and Ghost of Tsushima.
NetEase and Bungie have announced a mobile spin-off called Destiny: Rising, which really does sound like the most mobile-spin-off-y name for Destiny. It’s in development at NetEase, with Bungie (and Sony) lending the IP.
Xbox Game Studios Head Alan Hartman is retiring soon, and in his place will be Rare’s head, Craig Duncan. There’s no real insight yet into how this will affect Xbox in the grand scheme of things, but regardless, upcoming titles like Fable and Avowed are more likely to be impacted by their development teams rather than a new overarching studio head.
On a related note, beloved Rare classic Banjo Tooie is coming to Nintendo Switch Online next week, too.
If you’re itching for a new hero shooter to play, 2K just revealed its upcoming one with developer 31st Union called Project Ethos, and there’s a playtest available this weekend. You can find out how to get involved in our news story—though there’s also some paragraphs about how the game looks a little Concord-like, which says something.
What’s New This Week?
The latest from Bandai Namco isn’t another anime action game, but instead an original IP that’s meant to kickstart an entire multimedia franchise. Unknown 9: Awakening follows the story of Haroona (who you might recognize as Yennefer from the Netflix Witcher series), and she must use her supernatural, world-altering powers to unravel the mystery behind a parallel universe known as the Fold.
Our reviewer Erren Van Duine completed the game in about 22 hours, and she got invested in the worldbuilding on display here, which bodes well for its ambitious multimedia plans. However, the gameplay is a little bit clunky, especially at the start.
RetroRealms Goes for a Duo of Spooky Movie Tie-In Games
If you’re a big fan of horror movies, there are two new RetroRealms games with your name on it. RetroRealms: Ash vs. Evil Dead puts you in the shoes of Ash Williams, chainsaw and all. On the other hand, RetroRealms: Halloween makes you play as Michael Myers as you slice and dice through a town.
