Sony's Hungry For Some Elden Rings
Plus, the Keighley nominees are out.
(That includes FromSoftware)
At the time of writing, Kadokawa has publicly confirmed that it received an “initial letter of intent” from Sony, but no decisions have been made yet (unless that’s changed in the last 12 hours). If it does go through, would this retroactively make Bloodborne a first-party game?
Of course, there’s a lot more that this could impact outside the video game industry. Sony and Kadokawa are both pretty powerful conglomerates in Japan, controlling multiple verticals. If you consume a lot of anime and manga, you might be familiar with both of their names for different reasons. Kadokawa owns Yen Press, and Sony owns CrunchyRoll (rip Funimation).

If you’ve seen the nominees for Game of the Year, you’ll notice one of them feels extremely out of place… That’s right, what’s Balatro doing there? Just kidding, it’s actually an incredible game, and the nomination is well deserved.
But Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is another nominee. It’s a DLC so big that it feels bigger than other games. However, it’s still a DLC, right? You need Elden Ring.exe, and then you play a couple dozen hours to get to the point where you can start this GOTY nominee.
