The Confusing Censorship of Horses

Steam, Epic, and Humble delisted this game—but why?

Horses has been the talk of the town this week. It’s been delisted from Steam, Epic, and the Humble Store, though the latter reinstated it fairly quickly after a review. You can still get the game reliably on Itch.io and GOG, at least.

There have been concerns about the game’s content, with Epic outright saying that the game has explicit sexual content that isn’t appropriately labeled. It flagged the game with an Adults Only rating, which Epic doesn’t distribute as a rule.

Studio Santa Ragione claims that they think Steam’s delisting, which kicked off the whole thing, could stem from a specific scene involving a naked adult woman and a child being led by the player, as if they were horses. It sounds more disturbing than anything erotic, if you ask me. There’s been disturbing content on par with or even worse than Horses in popular films.

Arguably the biggest part of this update is that some tracks have been altered, particularly when you’re driving from one course to the next. This could have a more meaningful impact on Grand Prix mode, both offline and online, and it’s made me curious to dive back into Mario Kart World.

EA assures that all creative control will remain in house, but this is all a bit concerning, considering that the Saudi PiF’s chair, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has presided over quite a few human rights abuses in his time. Will the next Battlefield violate human rights? I mean, probably not. But it’s all about knowing where your money goes—though that does get difficult, considering the PiF has ties all over the industry, like with Niantic, NIntendo, and Capcom.

The Magic, Memories, and Melodies tour will (hopefully) come to a city near you. I know I’ll be at the Seattle day for sure. The publisher says this will be a “spectacular multimedia experience,” and if it’s anything like the Distant Worlds concerts for Final Fantasy, this should be an event you don’t want to miss.

Along with developing My Time at Evershine, Pathea has fully revealed its other project, The God Slayer. It’s an elemental-based action RPG that’s part of Sony’s China Hero Project initiative, and the initial footage looks pretty interesting.

Skyrim is 14 years old, and it’s still relevant thanks to the rabid modding fan base out there. The hotly anticipated Skyblivion mod, which aims to rebuild Oblivion with Skyrim’s engine, was delayed to next year, which gives you more time to play the official Oblivion remake from earlier this year.
