The Future of Xbox Is Full Steam Ahead
Game Pass is just the start.
Xbox is making some interesting choices as we’re gearing into the next generation (yes, the Series X and PS5 are 5 years old). It’s been pretty clear for a while now that the classic home console experience was never going to be Xbox’s path to success. It’s been going all in on Game Pass, particularly its play anywhere philosophy. The recently announced ROG Ally X only feeds into that.
Beyond that, it sounds like whatever Xbox device you play on in the future, it might allow for more storefronts on it. If I can access my Steam library from the comfort of my couch, that would be a pretty big game changer for Xbox. We’ll see if this goes the way of Windows phones though.
The wait for Marathon is living up to its name. Bungie has indefinitely delayed the upcoming extraction shooter, which has really suffered one woe after another. Between art theft and a general “who asked for this” vibe, the risk of another Concord only sounds more likely for Sony.
Updates, Trailers, and More
If you’re near Indianapolis and are a big fan of protecting victims of sexual violence, aiding genderfluid citizens, and/or Ify Nwadiwe in general, we’ve got some good news for you. This event on July 30 will raise money to support nonprofits RAINN and GenderNexus, and it will feature comedy acts, drag artists, musical performances, and a silent auction.
Warner Bros. Games is restructuring, and not in a corporate layoffs-y way. It’s dividing up into studios that will directly oversee specific IPs, with those being Mortal Kombat, DC Comics games, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones.
A Small Bit of Bad News
It’s the end of an era for Skyrim modders everywhere. Well, not quite, if founder Robin Scott is to be believed. He’s stepping down in the best interests of both himself and the community, but he says that Nexus will still be a community-first space.
