What Games Are Coming in 2025?
A lot of good ones, really.
Welcome to 2025! We’re already three days into the grind of a new year, but there’s already so much to look forward to. Here’s a shortlist of my more anticipated games to play over the next 360ish days, in case you need some ideas for what to look forward to next.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II - Feb 4 (which moved up a week, because Feb is crowded)
Civilization VII - Feb 11
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows - Feb 14 (more out of morbid curiosity, honestly)
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii - Feb 21
Monster Hunter Wilds - Feb 28 (“because Feb is crowded,” see?)
Hades II - Whenever it hits 1.0 (even though it’s already pretty great)
Doom: The Dark Ages
Ghost of Yotei
Borderlands 4, maybe?
Death Stranding 2
Whatever the Nintendo Switch successor is (with Metroid Prime 4 as a launch title???? Sign me up)
Whatever unpredictable indie breakout hit sucker punches us (think Balatro)
Oh yeah, and Grand Theft Auto VI, I guess
There’s so much more on the horizon that we know of and probably way more that we don’t know. It’s a good time for software.
But it’s worth noting that all of that comes at the cost of many people’s livelihoods and job security, as we’ve seen in the past two years now of record-breaking layoffs and turmoil in the industry. I only say this as a reminder for the industry we’re all a part of, as consumers and creators.

Calling all pinball wizards, warlocks, and sorcerers! Wizards of the Coast is collaborating with Stern Pinball for a new machine called The Tyrant’s Eye. Hope you’ve got $7k handy to get one yourself—or $13k for the limited edition machine.
Producer Feng Ji has been pretty vocal recently, huh? You might remember him as the guy who had his 2024 Game Awards acceptance speech written in 2022. Now he’s turning the heat back onto Microsoft, putting the Series S on blast—and that’s after Xbox said that platform limitations weren’t the reason behind Wukong’s delay on the console.
Quick Headlines
I can’t explain why, but the way Levine goes in on generative AI is very funny to me here.
It's this lack of persistence that Levine says means AI can't tell him a "really compelling story that has a three-act structure"; in fact, AI can't "even tell [him] multiple scenes", he says, going on to say that he's "not overly impressed" by the technology as it currently stands.
He worked with the publisher for two decades, helping to oversee the release of games like Worms, Alien Breed, and the PSP remake of Lemmings.
